MCH Title V epidemiologist

State of Utah is seeking a Title V MCH epidemiologist to support programs within the Division of Family Health, focusing on analytic support for women, infants, children, and adolescents. The role involves linking and analyzing data sets, reporting on grant-funded services, and assisting programs with their data needs.

Responsibilities

Assists in the annual HRSA Title V MCH block grant report and application by completing assigned narrative sections
Links data from multiple sources and completes technical data forms for the block grant using data provided by vital records, Medicaid, newborn screening, the Utah Birth Defect Network, and other programmatic data
Assists programs in developing evidence based strategy measures tied to national performance measures
Uses standardized techniques to update target objectives for national performance measures
Analyzes Federally Available Data from multiple data sources provided by HRSA and assists programs in interpreting that data for performance measures
Assists with public comment on planned block grant activities for the upcoming fiscal year
Provides analytic support to programs within the Division of Family Health and some Division of Population Health programs (particularly the Oral Health Program)
Assists programs with research design, including reliable sample selection, database design, survey development, data visualization, data analysis and report writing

Required

Master's degree or higher OR equivalent experience in Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Public Health, Social Sciences or related field
At least 2 years of professional experience that involves collecting, analyzing, and presenting different types of data, including experience working with statistical software packages such as SAS, R, or Stata
Displays a high level of initiative, including the ability and willingness to take ownership of work, recognize assignments or tasks that need to be completed, seek out additional assignments or tasks, and help others
Communicates in a way that builds relationships and fosters collaborative work

Preferred

An understanding of the HRSA Title V MCH block grant and its annual reporting and planning requirements. This includes understanding the technical requirements for several data forms that are submitted annually for the MCH block grant submission
An understanding of the various programs housed within the Division of Family Health and more specifically the Offices of Maternal and Child Health and Children with Special Health Care Needs
