Electrical/Embedded Engineer

The Electrical/Embedded Engineer will design PCBAs, develop firmware, and work closely with mechanical engineers to create efficient robotic systems.

Responsibilities

PCB Design & Manufacturing
Design PCBAs for space constrained applications, working closely with Mechanical Engineers
Design power, analog, and digital circuitry for robotics applications
Keep existing designs up to date and order production runs of PCBAs
Manage inventory and parts shortages
Communicate with suppliers and manufacturers
Identify and document assembly errors
Develop test procedures for PCBAs
Automate test procedures for large volume assemblies
Document procedures to hand off to technicians
Scripting in Python as required
Hands-on skills
Hardware debugging (Use of Oscilloscopes, Logic Analyzers, etc.)
Assembly of prototype PCBAs (Soldering, Reflow)
Wire termination and harness design
Basic mechanical assembly
Firmware
Write firmware drivers for digital and analog circuitry in C/C++ to run in an embedded RTOS environment

Required

B.S. in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
Strong interpersonal communication skills
Attention to detail and organization
Able to work independently and problem solve
Able to manage time effectively across multiple smaller projects
Experience with schematic capture and layout in Altium Designer
Experience with hardware debugging tools such as Oscilloscopes, Logic Analyzers, etc
Experience with basic soldering, reflow, and rework of PCBAs with SMD components
Capable of writing basic Python scripts for test automation
Able to work in person at Pittsburgh, PA office

Preferred

Experience with Ethernet based systems and design
Basic Linux and command line proficiency
Familiarity with the operating principles of common low level digital communications protocols such as SPI, I2C, and UART
Experience with C/C++ firmware on ARM Microcontrollers
Experience with Real Time Operating Systems
Hands-on experience with robotics such as through in-school clubs or previous work experience
