SAVES Program Leader I

The City of Palmdale is seeking a motivated, team-oriented individual to join the South Antelope Valley Emergency Services (SAVES) team as a part-time Program Leader I. This role involves coordinating with volunteers to manage warehouse inventory and providing essential support to the SAVES Coordinator, while also assisting in planning and implementing recreational activities for children and young adults.

Government Administration

Responsibilities

Assist in the planning, coordinating and conduct of recreation activities for children and young adults at parks, community centers, school fun centers and camps; implement activities such as games, contests, arts and crafts, skits and sports
Ensure the set-up and safety of facilities for planned activities; may prepare rooms for use by patrons; set up and take down tables, chairs, and related equipment
Oversee the use of the facility, insuring patrons conform to the established policies and procedures; ensure security of the facility at the end of the day
Report facility maintenance concerns and maintain adequate supplies and inventory by reporting needs
Assist in special events and other recreational activities including Fourth of July, Summerfest, Halloween, Fall Festival etc. as needed
Assist in researching and preparing creative recreational activities; assist in maintaining records of activities and preparing reports on programs, accidents, discipline problems and staff meetings as necessary
Disseminate program publicity as required
Attend meetings, training sessions, and conferences; assist in making presentations and provide information regarding programs

Required

Some experience in working with children or young adults in a recreational environment is highly desirable
Completion of formal or informal education sufficient to assure the ability to read and write at the level required for successful job performance
Must be at least 16 years of age by July 1 of the current year
Possession of or ability to obtain and maintain a valid California driver's license, or the ability to use alternative transportation methods to perform the essential duties of the position

Benefits

The City provides 15 paid holidays per year and 80 hours vacation (years one through four) with a maximum accrual of 240 hours (160 hours for benefited part-time employees).
Employees accrue 96 hours per year with a maximum accrual of 800 hours (400 hours for benefited part-time employees). Unbenefited part-time employees receive 28 hours of paid sick leave per fiscal year.
The City is a member of the California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS). Full-time and benefited part-time employees will be enrolled in either the New Member or Classic plan, as defined by CalPERS.
The program includes gym membership discounts, healthy eating programs, exercise classes & other programs.
Direct Deposit is mandatory for all new employees.
F&A Federal Credit Union & Logix Federal Credit Union (formerly Lockheed) are available options.
The City offers group health, dental/vision, long term and short term disability, and a $50,000 life insurance policy for full-time employees. The City contributes towards the employee's health insurance.
The City participates in the ICMA-RC Deferred Compensation Plan, which enables benefited part-time and full-time employees to contribute on a tax deferred basis.
Overtime is accrued at time-and-a-half for eligible employees for time physically worked in excess of the regular 40-hour work week.
Any employee may be reimbursed for work related mileage at 54 cents per mile when assigned to use their private vehicle on City business.
