Responsibilities

Assigns, trains, supervises, and evaluates a small staff providing professional social counseling services

Reviews case narratives prepared by subordinate staff checking for correctness, completeness, and adherence to policy and procedure

Makes recommendation on retention, promotion, demotion, and other human resources actions

Discusses difficult cases with staff in order to assist in problem solving

Gives technical advice to staff, families, and other provider agencies

Determines, schedules, and provides in-service training for subordinate staff

Supervises and participates in the preparation of narrative and simple statistical records and reports

Assists in studying relevant policy and procedure and in making recommendations for change

Explains and enforces policy and procedure for operations and functions within sphere of authority

Required

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in a social or behavioral science

Experience equivalent to three years of full-time professional social or human services counseling work

Additional qualifying graduate coursework in social work may be substituted for the required experience, on a year-for-year basis, to a maximum of two years

Three years of full-time professional social or human services counseling experience with the State of Tennessee

Complete a criminal history disclosure form in a manner approved by the appointing authority

Agree to release all records involving their criminal history to the appointing authority

Supply a fingerprint sample in a manner prescribed by the TBI for a fingerprint based criminal history records check

Submit to a review of their status on the Department of Health's vulnerable persons registry
