Responsibilities

Engage with shipyards, customers and other stakeholders to collect feedback for design incorporation
Have flexibility with work assignments and may perform duties outside of traditional discipline work scope
Work with multi-discipline teams on incorporation of SSNA design principles
Solve complex spatial integration issues while meeting system and overall ship requirements
Be able to effectively communicate with both internal leadership and external customer(s)
Be prepared to work in a collaborative and fast-paced environment
The position will requires individuals who are able to adapt and adjust to support objectives

Required

Bachelor's Degree and 9 years of relevant exempt experience
Master's Degree and 7 years of relevant professional experience
Ph.D. and 4 years of experience
Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program

Preferred

Strong technical background with a comprehensive knowledge of the engineering and design process related to mechanical systems from the concept stage through ship integration
Team facilitator and innovator, helping to inspire creative solutions to challenging design goals
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to support the development and presentation of technical reports and briefs to NNS leadership or the Navy, and coordinating with vendors and industry partners
Knowledge of submarine mechanical systems and how they interface with structural, electrical, and other mechanical systems
An understanding of an array of mechanical products, such as hydraulic and electric actuators, linkages/cam-sliders, pumps and valves, HVAC systems, structural weldments, welded or fastened joints, and others
Experience in traditional and computer-based methodologies for the design and analysis of components
The ability to foster a collaborative and inclusive team culture within a diverse set of team members and stakeholders
Exhibit an openness to continuous learning and development in a dynamic environment
Operational experience on commissioned or under construction Navy vessels is a plus
