Vehicle/Equipment Repair Technician II - Mechanic
The N.C. Department of Information Technology is seeking a Vehicle/Equipment Repair Technician II to join their team in Rowan County. This role involves performing skilled mechanic work on gasoline and diesel powered automotive and heavy equipment, including preventive maintenance and repair of various mechanical systems.

Responsibilities
Perform a range of progressive tasks involving services and repair of mechanical systems of gasoline/diesel powered automotive and heavy equipment
Perform skilled mechanic work in the following: preventive maintenance, tires and tubes, wheels and rims, cranking systems, lighting systems, cooling systems, fuel systems, and hydraulic systems
Furnish a set of mechanic’s tools
Perform duties of position in accordance with all safety regulations
Prepare and maintain paperwork essential to employment, equipment repair, inventory, and service records
Understand both written and oral instructions
Move parts and material necessary to repair and maintain equipment
Safely operate equipment for testing purposes
Demonstrate commitment to providing a safe working environment by leading by example
Read and interpret Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) manuals
Qualification
Required
High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two (2) years of experience in the area of assignment, or a sufficient year-for-year combination of education and experience in the repair work to which assigned; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Ability to perform skilled mechanic work in preventive maintenance, tires and tubes, wheels and rims, cranking systems, lighting systems, cooling systems, fuel systems, and hydraulic systems
Ability to perform duties of position in accordance with all safety regulations
Ability to prepare and maintain paperwork essential to employment, equipment repair, inventory, and service records
Ability to understand both written and oral instructions
Ability to move parts and material necessary to repair and maintain equipment
Ability to safely operate equipment for testing purposes
Ability to demonstrate commitment to providing a safe working environment by leading by example
Ability to read and interpret Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) manuals
The selected applicant will be expected to legally operate a motor vehicle and have a valid North Carolina Class A Commercial Driver's License with Tanker (N) endorsement
Pre-employment drug testing will be required
As a condition of employment, a release form (ALCDRG-01) and a background statement (ALCDRG-06) must be completed and signed allowing the NCDOT to check with previous employers for the past three years about controlled substance and alcohol testing
Safety-toed shoes required
Preferred
Experience in troubleshooting and repair of a minimum of one of the following: light, medium, heavy duty, or farm equipment brake components
Experience in performing preventive maintenance on a minimum of one of the following: light, medium, heavy-duty trucks, and heavy equipment
Experience in diagnostics of basic electrical systems and proper repair of wiring
Experience in basic hydraulic system repairs, including component replacement and hoses
Knowledge of diagnostic software, tools, and equipment for trucks and heavy equipment
