Responsibilities
Serves as a Data Scientist (AI Operations Specialist) supporting program activities related to Artificial Intelligence (AI) operations in the Digital Strategy Directorate within the Office of the Chief Information Office
Reports to the Digital Strategy Director with additional direction from Senior Innovation Specialist leading the responsible AI Program
Works in support of the Responsible AI Program in relation to research, experimentation, collaboration, and implementation of technical approaches on behalf of the Library to ensure the responsible, effective and practical use of AI technologies across the agency
Tasks include creation of relevant and sharable methods, code, frameworks, standards and best practices for implementing AI technologies in the federal, libraries, and cultural heritage sectors
Determines and consults with relevant stakeholders such as subject matter experts, and other potential sources to identify the appropriate data, method, approach, design, and techniques; translating business problems into data science problems, identifying problems that can be solved using machine learning, artificial intelligence, or optimization techniques
Independently analyzes and processes data, applying and explaining the statistical and mathematical principles used
Conducts observational analyses using software and/or programming languages to understand and process data, test hypotheses, predict outcomes, and inform decisions
Works with large datasets and numerous confounding and incongruent variables
In conjunction with the Responsible AI Program Leads, plans and coordinates functions of the program, encompassing critical and diverse functions or issues that adhere to the principle of Responsible AI
Establishes short- and long-range goals, develops detailed plans for implementation, and actively engages in the implementation of these activities
Determines whether adjustments, and/or changes in objectives or emphases are needed in program components
Works collaboratively to articulate and share data-driven findings, results, metrics, trends, conclusions and potential impacts of AI experiments, pilots, and uses cases across the agency while expanding the responsible use of AI technologies and identifying emerging methods, practices and policies
Provides advice and guidance to team members and Stakeholders on AI and recommendations in support of IT policies to ensure compliance, specifically Library handling procedures and restrictions on data, data security, and data usage
Provides advice and guidance to the Digital Strategy Directorate and other stakeholders, partners and contractors on proposed approaches and outcomes including data security, and data usage
Qualification
Required
Ability to leverage artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), and data science principles to develop and maintain models and algorithms in support of organizational initiatives
Ability to conduct data collection, preparation, and analysis for use with artificial intelligence
Ability to prepare and present reports and findings on complex technology topics
Ability to make recommendations based upon findings
Ability to work collaboratively with others
Ability to communicate effectively other than in writing
