Automotive Mechanic II
NEOGOV is seeking an Automotive Mechanic II to fill permanent, full-time positions within the Bureau of Highways and Utilities in the Department of Public Works. The role involves skilled tasks in the mechanical and electrical repair and maintenance of various automotive equipment, including police vehicles and trucks, under general supervision.

Responsibilities
Tunes engines, gaps and replaces spark plugs, sets timing; replaces cylinder heads and gaskets; grinds valves; makes service calls
Repairs and overhauls transmissions, differentials, front and rear end assemblies; turns brakes rotors and drums
Utilizes computerized diagnostic equipment in determining service requirements
Inspects, adjusts, and replaces necessary units and related parts including brakes, cooling, ignition, electrical, and fuel systems, mufflers, and exhaust pipes
Repairs and overhauls generators, carburetors and clutch assemblies; replaces broken axles and springs; replaces hydraulic lines and cylinders
Repairs and overhauls air compressors, portable pumps, chain saws, lawn mowers, and other specialized equipment; may do limited welding and blacksmithing work related to repairs
Performs related work as required
Qualification
Required
Graduation from high or vocational school
Two (2) or more years of experience in the repair and maintenance of automotive equipment at the full performance level
Automotive service excellence (ASE) certification as determined by area of assignment
A valid commercial Class B motor vehicle operator's license without air brake restriction
Candidates who do not possess a class B CDL without air brake restriction must obtain this license within six (6) months of employment
For applicants who do not possess a CDL, they must at least possess a non-provisional Class C driver's license at the time of application
Candidates must possess the ability to acquire a medical certificate as mandated by Federal Laws in order to obtain a CDL Learner's Permit
This position is Safety Sensitive and employees in this position are subject to Controlled Dangerous Substance (CDS) and Alcohol Testing
Preferred
A valid Class 'A' Commercial Driver's License (CDL) without air brake restriction
General maintenance and repair of heavy duty trucks and off-road equipment with complex hydraulic systems such as loaders, backhoes, street sweepers, vactors and roll-off trucks
