Controls & Electrical Engineering Manager
Dairy Farmers of America is seeking a Controls & Electrical Engineering Manager to manage and execute capital projects and provide major maintenance support on controls related issues. Responsibilities
Provide management with information and guidance on all aspects of controls, electrical design/construction, and maintenance matters. Investigate and report on problems and recommend solutions
Develop, organize, and maintain process controls/electrical engineering specifications, standards, and process equipment operational parameters to ensure process stability while maximizing manufacturing process efficiencies
Develop and manage the implementation of overall process control/electrical engineering plans and projects for assigned locations. Manage multiple projects, vendors, and contractors as related to the implementation of engineering plans
Maintain capital budget and equipment schedules in accordance with plant construction, expansion, and/or new product objectives
Communicate with internal personnel on projects, priorities, timetables and budgets
Serve as a technical authority on process controls/electrical engineering matters. Approve related technical specifications on drawings and literature
Continually strive to reduce facility and manufacturing operating costs by providing best option technical solutions and/or utilizing best method analyses towards improving internal systems
Stay abreast of engineering trends and developments. Recommend changes in policies and procedures as appropriate
Coordinate and manage resources, both personnel (e.g., electrical engineers, technicians, contractors) and funding to ensure the project or mission fulfills and meets the set objectives defined within the approved scope
Organize monthly technical presentation and review for electrical engineers and maintenance managers
Organize electrical and controls related technical training to improve electrical engineers, electricians, and maintenance managers technical skills
Design and support 3-5 years long-term plan (road map) for control system upgrade
Develop and manage support structure for operational technology (OT), including production line automation, controls, programming, computer networks, and other communication systems
Provide input on capital and expense projects to drive consistency and standardization
Provide technical expertise to continuously improve process control, utility, operations, and energy management; reduce usage; improve quality; and reduce overall cost of operation
Follow all DFA good manufacturing practices (GMP) and work in a manner consistent with all corporate regulatory, food safety, quality, and sanitation requirements

Qualification
Required
Undergraduate degree in engineering (electrical engineering preferred) or related curriculum (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
8 or more years of multi-disciplinary technical experience in food industry (preferably dairy), including plant capital projects and/or expansion
Experience with power system design and maintenance plan, electrical one-line, schematics design, HMI programming (FT View), PLC-5 / CLX programming, electrical equipment including Pump/VSD maintenance, and instrumentation
Advanced knowledge of power system design and maintenance plan, electrical one-line, schematics design, HMI programming (FT View), PLC-5 / CLX programming, electrical equipment including Pump/VSD maintenance, and instrumentation
Working knowledge of electrical and process engineering with a strong emphasis on process controls
Working knowledge of utility technology (e.g., power system, water treatment, boiler house, NH3 cooling system, air supply system)
Knowledge of historian, thin client and servers, SQL database, network communication, distribution switches
Knowledge of Federal Drug Administration (FDA), GMP, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) policies and regulations
Knowledge of regulatory codes and translating into blueprints and schematics
Knowledge of project management processes, techniques, and tools
Skill in planning, organization, and analysis
Skill in contractor and vendor management
Able to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing
Able to complete problem analysis and resolution for both strategic and functional levels
Able to manage projects for multiple plants simultaneously
Able to lead people and get results through others
Able to communicate with diverse range of individuals to ensure needs and requirements are met
Able to think creatively and develop short - and long-range innovation
Must be able to read, write and speak English
