Principal Engineer - Water Manager
South Florida Water Management District is seeking a Principal Engineer - Water Manager to supervise multiple crews involved in street maintenance. The role involves planning, scheduling, and coordinating work, implementing safety standards, and developing staff training programs.

Responsibilities
Supervises non-supervisory and/or working supervisory employees involved in the operation, construction, maintenance and/or repair of city infrastructure
Plans, schedules, coordinates and assigns work and establishes goals and priorities for subordinate employees
Implements safety standards and develops procedures to ensure compliance
Resolves problems encountered by employees during the course of the assignment
Develops and implements staff training and development plans to provide cross training of employees, specific job related training and other approaches to provide opportunities for staff flexibility and development
Develops the performance evaluation program for functions within the unit, monitors and documents employee performance, provides ongoing feedback regarding levels of performance and formally evaluates employees in relation to performance
Reviews work upon completion for adherence to guidelines and standards
Assist in the development of departmental budgets
Allocates resources within the supervised function in accordance with work requirements and budget restraints
Implements and interprets policies and procedures developed by higher level managers or supervisors. Assists in developing, recommending and coordinating the implementation of new procedures for the assigned functions or unit
Initiates and recommends disciplinary action for employees as necessary
Prepares work records and reports
Participates in the selection of staff reporting directly to this position
Some positions may evaluate new equipment, materials and techniques used in the operation, construction, maintenance and repair of city facilities, infrastructure and equipment
Implement and monitor snow removal operations
Qualification
Required
Graduation from high school or possession of a GED Certificate required
Three years of experience in the operation of equipment characterized by tandem axles or auxiliary functions, two of those years must have been performing work involved with maintaining streets and alleys
Additional appropriate education may be substituted for up to one year of the minimum experience requirement
Some positions may require possession of a Colorado Class “R” Driver's License at the time of application
Completion of a Career Service Authority supervisory training course prior to the completion of the probationary period
