Temporary Art Studio Lab Manager

Responsibilities
Oversees and manages the day-to-day operations relating to the Art + Art History Lab areas. Serves as Safety Officer
Maintains, repairs, and supervises all Lab equipment and machinery
Supervises and conducts inventory on a quarterly basis and maintains stock of required machinery parts and materials
Coordinates with the department purchaser to order materials, equipment, and parts for Lab machinery and equipment
Oversee the management of the lab facilities, including reporting any necessary facility deficiencies to Facilities Work Management and the CARTA Director of Operations. This includes proper function of all facility entries and exits, lighting, equipment safety, and cleanliness
In conjunction with FIU's EH&S, responsible for implementing policies and procedures relating to health, life, and safety in the Labs and associated spaces
Provides safety/technical assistance and training to faculty and students. Schedules and leads equipment demonstrations with faculty and students. Administers and keeps logs related to all safety trainings and major equipment use
Conducts regular scheduled maintenance on digital printers and computers (updating OS, software, etc.). Reports software updates that are needed before the end of each semester
Supervises the operation of machines, printers, mix chemistry and stock solutions. Check the chemical levels in the holding tanks, mix chemicals, stock solutions, regulate temperature, adjust revolutions, developer and bleach/fix pumps, water pressure and regulate dryer temperature
Supervises Student Safety Officers, manages schedules and duties and maintains a master calendar for shop use, keeps statistics of shop use, and reevaluates the most effective use of space and time within the lab facilities
Troubleshoots tool and equipment malfunction in a timely manner. Creates a system to report tool and machinery issues to be resolved
Creates, administers, and manages a small equipment and tool checkout system. Maintains equipment and tools by performing preventive maintenance
Performs related duties as required or as directed. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position
Qualification
Required
High School Diploma or GED and 2 years of experience; OR an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience
