Senior Traffic Signal Technician
City of Melbourne is seeking a Senior Traffic Signal Technician to perform skilled technical work in the maintenance and repair of traffic signals and related systems. The role involves troubleshooting, preventative maintenance, and ensuring the proper operation of traffic control devices throughout the city.

Responsibilities
Repairs and maintains traffic signals, signal systems, telecommunications, and associated equipment throughout the City
Troubleshoots defective traffic signals and replaces defective controllers, monitors, and system master components
Performs preventative maintenance work on traffic signals and flashers
Works in aerial bucket or platform truck for replacing and repairing signal lamps, overhead wiring, traffic signal assemblies
Performs signal construction work as required
Changes timing on signal controllers as needed and as directed
Programs signal controllers for coordinated operation as needed and as directed
Maintains records and tracks repairs
Prepares maintenance reports
Tracks inventory to ensure adequate parts and supplies are on-hand
Performs other assigned duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
High School Diploma or GED. (Proof of education must be uploaded with application)
Five (5) years of related experience in traffic signal maintenance, including closed loop experience
Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver's license
Must possess ISMA Level II or Level III certification
Knowledge of principles and theories of electricity and electronics
Knowledge of standard tools, materials, methods and practices of the electrical trade
Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions of the electrical trade and work involving high voltage
Knowledge of microprocessors, and electric/electronic traffic controllers, overhead regulatory and advisory signs
Knowledge of the tools and apparatus necessary for the installation, maintenance and repairs of traffic signals
Ability to work at heights up to 35 feet
Ability to follow oral and written direction
Ability to work on-call on weekends and evenings
Ability to work outside in inclement weather conditions including heat, humidity, rain, cold
Ability to work while exposed to excessive wind, fumes, odors, noise, vibration and dust
Ability to read and comprehend technical and professional manuals, procedures, periodicals, maps, wiring diagrams, schematics, instructions, safety rules, memos and letters
Ability to write compound sentences relating information, data, and details in report or summary form
Ability to perform shop math and basic mathematical functions
Ability to speak clearly and concisely
Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs
Ability to reach overhead, climb, stand, walk, balance, push, pull, crouch, crawl and kneel
Ability to see colors, hear and speak
