Network Engineer

Responsibilities
Install, configure, secure, and maintain LAN/WAN infrastructure across IT and OT environments
Deploy and manage Cisco and Meraki devices, including routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless access points
Maintain physical network infrastructure (cabling, racks, UPS, PDUs) following data center best practices
Configure and manage network security (firewalls, VPNs, AAA/RADIUS, DNS security) and core services (DHCP, DNS, NTP)
Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize network performance; provide Tier 2 support and coordinate advanced issue resolution
Maintain accurate network documentation and inventory of equipment, circuits, and IP addresses
Develop automation tools to improve network efficiency and visibility
Ensure compliance with industry best practices, NHEC standards, and regulatory security controls
Identify and remediate network vulnerabilities in collaboration with Information Security
Participate in network planning and design; manage multiple projects independently under IT leadership guidance
Support cloud-based voice and unified communications infrastructure
Pursue ongoing training and certifications to stay current on networking and security best practices; recommend strategic updates
Qualification
Required
Associate degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field plus 4 years' experience in similar role required or 6 years of progressive experience in lieu of degree. Comparable military training or an associate level Network certification, such as CCNA, will also be considered as experience
Strong knowledge of and experience with data networking technologies to include network cabling, switching, routing, firewalls, VPN, and network management platforms
Strong proficiency with Enterprise networking devices (switches, routers and firewalls) from leading equipment vendors
Must have a valid driver's license and ability to drive to any office location
Strong network troubleshooting skills, the ability to clearly and concisely communicate troubleshooting results and proactively assist with driving outages to resolution
Preferred
Strong expertise in data networking technologies, including copper/fiber cabling, Wi-Fi, TCP/IP, subnetting, DHCP, DNS, NAT, and packet analysis
Proficient in switching (VLANs, spanning-tree, trunking) and routing protocols (OSPF, EIGRP, static routing)
Experience with WAN technologies (MPLS, private Ethernet, fiber, PON, LTE/5G) and VPN protocols (IKE, IPSEC, TLS/SSL)
Skilled in firewall configuration and policy management; familiarity with Cisco ISE, Cisco Umbrella, NG firewalls, Meraki, and SolarWinds
Competent in network device management (CLI, IOS updates, configuration best practices) and network management platforms
Ability to create accurate network diagrams using Microsoft Visio or similar tools
Working knowledge of virtualization, backup/recovery, cloud services, IAM, and security principles
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills; attention to detail and commitment to quality
Excellent written and verbal communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences
Effective time management and interpersonal skills; ability to build positive relationships with stakeholders
Continuous learner with curiosity and adaptability; industry knowledge of electrical utilities and broadband is a plus
