Director Trade Development

Responsibilities

Supervise, mentor, and coach a team of trade (sales and business) development professionals domestically and abroad remotely via email or phone and/or in person
Develop yearly Trade Development plan; oversee Trade Development activities to ensure all directives, expectations and required reports are completed on schedule
Coordinate all Trade Development trips outside the local office area, both domestic and international
Designate accounts within office area to Trade Development Managers, track progress on activities of these accounts
Advise and meet with staff and other departments on problems that arise within the jurisdiction of the Port area, public and private
Collaborate with cargo interests, railroads, and ocean carriers to ensure rates and service via rail, motor and Port Houston are competitive to maintain and attract customers
Cultivate and bring forth new business relationships for Port Houston and follow through to completion, whether by tariff or contract
Establish and maintain relationships with ocean carriers, agents, brokers, forwarders, truck lines, cargo interests, stevedores, and labor for point of contact customer service
Prepare monthly highlights for division report to the Port Commission
Direct interaction with the Operations Division to develop a firm knowledge of the capabilities, operations and costs of Port Houston facilities
Develop benchmarks, targets and Key Performance Indicators "KPIs" to effectively monitor performance and initiate and execute action plans to achieve or surpass goals and objectives according to trade (business) development plan
Communicate and collaborate with other senior executive team members, department heads and staff members to develop, initiate and execute customer action plans and respond to customer needs and requirements
Collaborate with cross functional teams to design, implement and execute organizational, strategic planning objectives
Perform a variety of administrative duties, including scheduling, reporting, accounting, budget preparation and maintenance and planning
Act in accordance with Port Houston core values (respect, excellence, accountability, diligence, and you)
Perform other duties as required

Required

Bachelor's degree in business administration, Maritime Administration, Marketing, or related field from an accredited public or private institution required
7+ years of related business development experience required
Previous supervisory experience required
Knowledge of principles and practices of personnel management
Knowledge of transportation and international trade
Knowledge of modern office equipment and applicable software packages
Knowledge of strategic management
Knowledge of short- and long-term planning techniques
Verbal and written communication skills
Organization and prioritization skills
Leadership and coordination skills
