The City of Clermont is seeking a part-time seasonal Swim Instructor/Lifeguard to provide swim lessons and lifeguard at the Clermont Arts & Recreation Center pool. The role involves ensuring safety and water safety skills, responding to emergencies, and providing exceptional customer service.

Responsibilities

Responds to emergencies according to safety policy and procedures

Performs a variety of routine aquatic tasks to include: pulling aquatic equipment needed, minor aquatic equipment maintenance, assisting in check in of aquatic programming, parent, and participant questions, and provide exceptional customer service

Monitors swimming activities and ensures that policies, guidelines, and safety procedures are followed

Warnsswimmersofimproperactivitiesordangerandenforcespoolregulationsandwatersafety policies

Provides aquatic instructions based on training about safety, and swim techniques

Administers first aid in the event of injury, rescues swimmers in distress or danger of drowning, and administers CPR and/or artificial respiration, if necessary

Completes all paperwork and documentation including incident reports

Evaluatesconditionsforsafetyandinitiatesaquaticsemergencyactionplanas required

Inspects pool facilities, equipment, and water to ensure that they are safe and usable

Assists in cleaning the pool and related facilities and equipment, assists with chlorine residual water tests, and with records and charts of water tests and records of accidents, and adds chemicals to pool water as directed

May assist in organizing, monitoring, and interacting with various aquatics activities for all age group programs

Assists with special events as needed and assigned

Receives inquiries, concerns, complaints and request for assistance regarding areas of responsibility, and as deemed necessary forwards such information to the appropriate Parks and Recreation personnel

Wears city issued uniform during assigned shifts

May operate and carry a department handheld radio

Follows daily schedules, assigned rotations, and lessons classes

Must be able to work rotations shifts, evenings, weekends, and holidays

Other duties as assigned

Required

Strong aquatic skills, and ability to spot inconsistencies with swimming skills in others

Strong organizations skills and ability to communicate effectively

Customer services experience

Skilled in using a basic first aid medical kit

Current American Red Cross CPR and First Aid Certification

Current Lifeguard Certification

Certified Swim Instructor, or able to obtain certification within 1 month of date of hire

Valid Florida Driver's License (Class E)

Ability to make water rescue as needed

Must have good finger/hand dexterity, hand/eye coordination, good eyesight, hearing, and speech

Requires normal visual acuity and field of vision, hearing, and speaking abilities

Must be able to lift up to 45 lbs

Occasional lifting of supplies and equipment, and moderate to frequent walking, standing, stooping, climbing, bending, kneeling, reaching, and pulling

Maybe required to stand, and swim for long periods of time

Strong swimming capabilities, and the physical ability to assist others in the pool
