Traffic and Logistics Specialist

The Traffic & Logistics Specialist coordinates the transportation of scrap materials, managing freight logistics, scheduling pickups, and ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

Scheduling Support: Assist in planning and coordinating customer pickups and deliveries using the company-owned fleet and approved carriers, ensuring timely and cost-effective solutions
Daily Communication with Drivers: Maintain constant communication with drivers to provide updates, resolve issues, and ensure adherence to schedules
Inbound and Outbound Logistics: Handle basic tasks related to inbound and outbound freight coordination, prioritizing efficiency and meeting delivery deadlines under the guidance of senior team members
Assist in Load Planning: Support load optimization efforts to maximize vehicle efficiency and reduce costs
Customer Interaction: Address order inquiries, assist with service requests, and communicate updates to customers and internal teams
Operational Support: Collaborate with team members to resolve minor logistical challenges, escalating more complex issues to the supervisor or Logistics Manager
Inventory Checks: Assist in verifying material availability for shipments and coordinate with warehouse staff to meet delivery requirements
Documentation and Recordkeeping: Prepare, maintain, and organize routine transportation documentation to ensure accessibility and compliance with company standards
Learning and Development: Participate in training programs to enhance knowledge of transportation systems, logistics operations, and industry-specific best practices
Policy Compliance: Perform all duties in adherence to SOPs, Safety Procedures, and Company Policies, reporting any issues or potential improvements to the supervisor
Support Emergency Response: Assist in rerouting or rescheduling deliveries during unforeseen circumstances, such as weather disruptions or mechanical issues

Required

High school diploma + 4+ years relevant work experience in customer service, logistics, or transportation industry OR Associates Degree + 2+ years relevant work experience in customer service, logistics, or transportation industry OR Bachelors Degree + 1+ years relevant work experience in customer service, logistics, or transportation industry
Willingness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced environment
Strong organizational and time management abilities
Effective communication and problem-solving skills
Basic computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word)

Preferred

Previous experience in logistics, traffic management, or transportation, preferably in a recycling or industrial environment
Knowledge of DOT regulations, freight logistics, and routing principles
Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple priorities
Proficiency in logistics management software and Microsoft Office Suite
Strong communication and negotiation skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
