Responsibilities

Planning, organizing, coordinating, directing and managing a facility wide comprehensive occupational safety and health and industrial hygiene programs
Prepares local occupational safety, industrial hygiene, environmental and fire protection, safe patient handling and emergency management directives and regulations
Eliminate risk of injury, illness or fire to all patients, visitors, contractors and employees at the medical center
Detect hazardous operations and conditions and recommend proper measures to eliminate or minimize the possibility of injury, illness, environmental impact or fire to personnel and property
Coordinates medical center environment of care management plans including the annual assessments and the EOC council
Assures development and implementation of the emergency operations plan, continuity of operations and ongoing preparedness of medical center for all-hazard events
Review grant proposals for inclusion of safeguards for using chemicals, ensuring safety training has taken place and safe practices are in effect. Ensures that the medical center accurately reports all activities and pays appropriate fees related to state EPA hazardous waste and material activities. Performs workplace ergonomic surveys
Initiates investigations for mishaps involving personnel, damage to machinery, tools, materials or equipment and any type of environmental mishap. Compiles statistical data to determine mishap trends and recommends preventative measures
Plan and schedule work of subordinate group of employees
Works independently as a technical authority in the field
Directs activities for the safety/fire safety, environmental (GEMS), industrial hygiene, safe patient handling, and emergency management sections

BASIC REQUIREMENTS: This position has individual occupation requirements you must have one of the following: Specialized Experience or Certificates
Specialized Experience: Experience in or related to safety and occupational health that provided the specific knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position
GS-12 GRADE REQUIREMENTS: You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-11 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization
You will be rated on the following Competencies for this position: Communications, Compliance Inspection, Leadership, Planning and Evaluating, Technical Competence
Physical Requirements: The performance of work duties requires frequent surveys necessitating prolonged periods of walking, standing, and bending
