Responsibilities

Maintenance of clinical equipment through the effective use of the Medical Equipment Management Plan and our CMMS software
Performs a variety of tasks associated with the installation, maintenance, calibration and repair of biomedical equipment with minimal supervision
Assist with complex repair and installation projects
Perform preventive maintenance, repairs, calibration, and electrical safety testing on sophisticated medical equipment including imaging systems, life support equipment, surgical devices, patient monitoring systems, and laboratory instrumentation
Troubleshoot and resolve complex equipment failures using advanced diagnostic techniques and test equipment
Conduct acceptance testing and initial inspections on new medical equipment prior to clinical use
Maintain accurate documentation of all maintenance activities, test results, and equipment histories in the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS)
Ensure all equipment testing complies with NFPA 99, ANSI/AAMI standards, Joint Commission requirements, and manufacturer specifications
Ensure compliance with Joint Commission standards, FDA regulations, OSHA requirements, and other applicable healthcare regulations
Maintain equipment inventory and preventive maintenance schedules
Prepare documentation for regulatory inspections and accreditation surveys
Participate in incident investigations involving medical equipment
Conduct quality control checks and performance verification testing
Perform electrical safety testing per NFPA 99 standards on all applicable medical devices
Identify and report equipment safety hazards and take corrective action
Ensure all equipment meets current safety standards and recalls are addressed promptly
Interface with equipment manufacturers, vendors, and service representatives
Coordinate warranty repairs and service contracts
Provide technical support and training to clinical staff on equipment operation
Respond to emergency equipment failures with appropriate urgency
Assist with equipment installation, relocation, and decommissioning projects
Manage multiple priorities and complete projects within established timeframes

Required

Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field
Minimum 2 years of progressively responsible experience in biomedical equipment maintenance OR equivalent combination of education and experience
Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician (CBET) certification
Experience with Joint Commission or other healthcare accreditation processes
Project management experience
Understanding of medical equipment operation, maintenance, and repair principles
Proficient in reading and interpreting electrical and mechanical schematics, service manuals, and technical documentation
Knowledge of healthcare regulations including NFPA 99, Joint Commission standards, FDA requirements, and OSHA regulations
Understanding of hospital safety standards and infection control practices
Familiarity with CMMS software and electronic documentation systems
Troubleshooting and diagnostic abilities
Proficient use of test equipment including electrical safety analyzers, oscilloscopes, multimeters, and specialized diagnostic tools
Ability to perform electrical safety testing per NFPA 99-2012 standards including ground continuity, leakage current, and insulation resistance measurements
Competent in soldering, mechanical assembly, and precision calibration techniques
Computer proficiency including Microsoft Office suite and technical software applications
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong organizational and time management capabilities
Customer service oriented with professional demeanor
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
Ability to lift and move equipment up to 50 pounds regularly; heavier equipment with assistance
Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and reaching
Manual dexterity for precision work with small components
Visual acuity for reading technical documentation and performing detailed work
Ability to work in confined spaces and at various heights using ladders or lift
