Human Resources Director

Responsibilities

Lead and continuously improve the organization’s human resources strategy, aligning HR practices with Evergreen’s mission, values, and strategic goals
Serve as a member of the leadership team; participate in leadership, board, and committee meetings as requested
Act as the Executive Director’s designee for coordination and support of the Board Personnel Committee, including agenda development and reporting
Oversee and coordinate the full-cycle recruitment and hiring process for employees, interns, and volunteers, including job postings, screening, interviews, selection guidance, and background studies
Ensure job descriptions are accurate, current, and compliant; partner with program leadership to update roles as needed
Design and coordinate agency-wide onboarding and orientation; support program-specific training in collaboration with program directors
Conduct and analyze exit interviews; identify trends and make recommendations to improve retention and workplace culture
Guide and support supervisors in performance management, coaching, corrective action, and disciplinary processes
Conduct or oversee employee investigations and grievance resolution in a fair, timely, and legally compliant manner
Support staff development initiatives, including training coordination, leadership development, and required continuing education tracking
Administer and evaluate compensation structures, including periodic market reviews and internal equity analyses; make recommendations for adjustments
Oversee employee benefits administration, including health benefits, EAP, leave policies, and related communications
Collaborate with finance and leadership on payroll-related policies and compliance
Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, including but not limited to HIPAA, EEO, ADA, data privacy, and Minnesota employment requirements
Ensure compliance with grant-related personnel requirements (e.g., VOCA, VAWA) in coordination with program and grants staff
Maintain accurate, confidential personnel records and HR systems
Represent the organization in employment-related hearings or audits as needed, in coordination with legal counsel
Coordinate employee safety, wellness, and risk management initiatives; convene and support the Safety Committee
Serve as the primary HR liaison for facility-related compliance affecting staff, including ADA coordination and relevant licensing standards
Coordinate building access systems (keys/fobs) and act as backup for access-related issues
Communicate with property management regarding facility issues and repairs
Provide direct supervision of janitorial staff
Prepare and provide HR-related reports and updates to the Executive Director for Board reporting
Maintain and update HR-related policies, procedures, and the Employee Handbook; recommend revisions as needed
Maintain professional knowledge through ongoing education, networking, and participation in relevant professional organizations
Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director

Required

Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Organizational Development, or a related field, or equivalent experience
Demonstrated experience in employee relations, hiring, performance management, and terminations
Working knowledge of federal and Minnesota employment laws and HR best practices
Proven ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with professionalism and discretion
Strong interpersonal, coaching, and conflict-resolution skills
Excellent written, verbal, and organizational skills
Proficiency with Microsoft Office (including Excel) and HR-related systems
Commitment to Evergreen's mission, values, and work with youth, families, and communities

Preferred

Three (3) years of progressive human resources leadership experience
Advanced degree or professional HR certification (e.g., SHRM-CP/SCP, PHR/SPHR)
Experience working with nonprofit organizations, grant-funded programs, and regulatory compliance environments
Experience partnering with boards and board committees
Knowledge of or willingness to learn Minnesota requirements related to data privacy, HIPAA, vulnerable adults, maltreatment of minors, resident rights, ethical conduct, MDH/DHS licensing, and ADA
Ability to work collaboratively with county, tribal, school district, and community partners
Reliable transportation and a valid driver's license
Successful completion of required background studies and drug/alcohol screening as required by law and agency policy
Ability to serve as a positive role model for staff, youth, families, and the community
