Facilities Engineering Technician

GM Performance Power Units is focused on high-performance engine testing and is seeking a Facilities Engineering Technician to ensure the reliability and performance of their facility systems. This hands-on role involves maintaining and troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, and control systems in a fast-paced motorsports environment.

Responsibilities

Perform maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on motorsports facility systems, including HVAC, chilled/process water, electrical distribution, compressed air, and exhaust systems
Diagnose equipment issues quickly and accurately, supporting rapid testing schedules
Maintain AHUs, including filter management, safety resets, inspections, and airflow verification for test cell environments
Support troubleshooting of drive cabinets, dyno support electrical panels, and high-voltage equipment while adhering to strict safety procedures
Maintain the readiness, inventory, and reliability of all test cell support equipment, including dynamometer facility interfaces and conditioning cabinets
Support operation and upkeep of combustion air systems, cooling loops, heater coils, valves, pumps, compressors, and related instrumentation
Ensure proper function of exhaust extraction systems, including VFD-controlled fans, mufflers, filtration, and gas monitoring equipment
Work closely with test engineers to support quick configuration changes between test programs
Perform assigned tasks on 480V/600V 3-phase power systems, switchgear, disconnects, breaker panels, and motors used in high-performance testing
Follow all motorsports facility electrical safety standards, including NFPA 70E, LO/TO, arc-flash PPE, and equipment-specific safety protocols
Perform PLC resets, safety string checks, sensor verification, and provide support to controls engineers during troubleshooting
Use CMMS, BAS, and test cell monitoring software for work orders, alarms, and documentation
Identify and report opportunities for improving system uptime, response speed, and energy efficiency
Support installation of new dyno systems, cooling equipment, electrical upgrades, and motorsports facility improvements
Coordinate with electrical, mechanical, rigging, and piping vendors during scheduled work and project activities
Review drawings, equipment manuals, and safety requirements to support project execution
Execute preventive and predictive maintenance to ensure equipment reliability under motorsports-level loads and test frequencies
Conduct daily inspections of test cells, cooling systems, air systems, and facility infrastructure; escalate abnormalities promptly
Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas consistent with motorsports operating standards
Provide training or support to junior technicians and contractors as needed

Required

Hands-on technician experience with mechanical, electrical, or facility systems in motorsports, automotive testing, industrial, or high-performance environments
Knowledge of air handling units, cooling loops, drive cabinets, exhaust systems, and high-voltage electrical equipment
Ability to interpret wiring diagrams, P&IDs, mechanical schematics, and electrical prints
Familiarity with PLCs, test cell controls, safety circuits, and CMMS/BAS tools
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with a fast, methodical approach suited to motorsports timelines
Effective communication and ability to collaborate with engineers, technicians, and vendors

Preferred

Degree or technical diploma in Mechanical, Electrical, Automotive, or Facilities Engineering Technology (or equivalent experience)
Experience supporting dyno test cells, race engine development, or high-performance automotive systems
Knowledge of NFPA, OSHA, and motorsports-specific safety and compliance requirements
Experience in rapid turnaround environments or motorsports operations
