Test Cell Operations Summer Intern

GM Performance Power Units is seeking a Test Cell Operations Intern for summer 2026 to support engine, powertrain, and component testing. This hands-on role involves working closely with engineers and technicians to assist in operating test cells, preparing hardware, and collecting data.

Responsibilities

Assist engineers and technicians in executing test plans and procedures
Support installation and removal of engines, gearboxes, and components in test cells
Help prepare test cells, tooling, and instrumentation for scheduled tests
Observe and assist with operation of engine and powertrain dyno systems under supervision
Perform basic troubleshooting of test setups and report issues to senior staff
Collect, organize, and document test data accurately
Maintain cleanliness, organization, and basic upkeep of test cell areas
Follow all safety procedures and company standards during testing activities
Communicate progress and issues clearly with the test team
Other duties as assigned

Required

Currently pursuing a degree in Mechanical, Automotive, Electrical, or related Engineering field
Strong interest in engines, powertrains, or motorsports engineering
Basic mechanical aptitude and hands-on experience (school projects, labs, clubs, or personal work)
Familiarity with engines, drivetrains, or vehicle systems (academic or extracurricular)
Willingness to learn test cell operations and automation tools
Exposure to dyno testing, data acquisition, or MATLAB through coursework or projects
Strong communication and interpersonal abilities
Collaboration: Works effectively with internal teams and external partners
Adaptability: Responds effectively to evolving business needs and opportunities
Growth mindset
Ability to handle multiple projects independently
Ability to stand, walk, and move in diverse operational environments, including race shops, arenas, and commercial facilities
