PUBLIC UTILITY LAW JUDGE II PUBLIC SERVICE COMMISSION
The State of Maryland is seeking a Public Utility Law Judge II for the Public Service Commission, responsible for conducting quasi-judicial hearings and rendering decisions. This role involves travel throughout Maryland to oversee hearings and requires a Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.

Qualification
Required
A Juris Doctor degree or equivalent degree from an accredited law school
Five years of experience in the practice of law
Within the past seven years, must have a minimum of five years of experience either presenting exhibits or evidence; examining witnesses, and submitting written briefs in a contested evidentiary hearing before a quasi-judicial body or a trial court; or preparing proposed decisions for a trial court or quasi-judicial body
Candidates for this classification must be a member of the bar in any state or federal jurisdiction at the time of appointment
Employees in this classification must become a member of the Maryland Bar within 18 months of appointment
Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland
Preferred
Experience conducting administrative hearings is a plus
Experience with regulated utilities is a plus
Maryland Bar membership is preferred
Excellent writing skills, as determined by recent, relevant writing samples
Ability to comprehend complex technical issues; attention to detail
Excellent time management skills, ability to handle numerous cases simultaneously
Ability to perform in-depth legal research
Experience with various legal tools, legal research platforms such as Westlaw or LexisNexis
Experience with virtual hearings
Experience with preparing witnesses for testimony, evaluating witness testimony, witness depositions, cross examination of witnesses. Experience with expert witnesses a plus
Articulable experience with procedural rules, the rules of evidence, Maryland Code Annotated, COMAR, statutory interpretation. Experience with the Public Utilities Article and/or utility regulations a plus
Experience with traveling to courts in different jurisdictions
Ability to travel to hearings throughout Maryland
Exhibits judicial attributes, temperament; ability to exercise judgment, fairness, as well as to assess credibility and act in an impartial manner
