Partnership on AI (PAI) is a non-profit organization focused on creating solutions for the advancement of AI for positive societal outcomes. They are seeking a highly-experienced Program and Research Lead to manage complex initiatives at the intersection of AI, labor, and the economy, ensuring beneficial outcomes for workers globally.

Responsibilities

Apply expertise to draft program deliverables and research reports, contributing substantive analysis and written content
Support the content, agenda setting and execution of convenings, workshops, steering committees, and/or working groups to advance programmatic work in collaboration with colleagues
Apply expertise to identify viable courses of action to advance worker well-being, including but not limited to (1) the development of new programmatic work, (2) advancement of existing work, and (3) cultivation or strengthening of stakeholder relationships
Stay ahead of AI and economic trends and recently released research, analyzing their current and anticipated impacts on the workforce and broader U.S. domestic and global economy. Build upon knowledge of existing and frontier AI systems to inform programmatic efforts
Conduct targeted research and analysis on specific topics
Support the execution of a multi-stakeholder Steering Committee, including agenda and pre-read design, participant coordination, and post-event synthesis, as well as 1-2 workshops per year
Own project management for complex deliverables with multiple workstreams, ensuring timelines are met and stakeholder input is integrated appropriately. Lead select projects from ideation to execution and post-project impact assessment
Partner closely with colleagues across PAI teams to ensure Programs & Research work is aligned with organizational priorities and contributes to PAI’s shared goals. Maintain strong communication channels across the organization to ensure alignment and transparency
Engage effectively and build consensus and trusted relationships among a wide range of stakeholders, including industry leaders, labor advocates, researchers, policymakers, and civil society organizations, who may hold different values and have competing interests
Work collaboratively and conscientiously across PAI to support the development of deeper partnerships with other organizations bringing complementary expertise, skills and networks
Working with PAI’s Partnership Development team, support engagement with philanthropic partners by articulating program strategies, theory of change, and expected impact

Preferred

5+ years of relevant and progressively responsible experience at the intersection of AI, labor, and economics
Deep expertise in AI, labor, and economic topics, with a strong understanding of how AI trends may impact workers and society, demonstrated via a graduate degree (Master's or Ph.D.) or equivalent experience in a relevant field, such as in public policy, international development, economics, sociology, computer science, and/or labor studies
Demonstrated track record of structuring and managing complex partnerships with diverse stakeholder groups, particularly across the private sector, civil society, labor, and/or international institutions
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to create and translate technical and policy insights into accessible research, other outputs, and messaging that responds to the needs of diverse audiences
Demonstrated strategic thinker with the ability to structure and synthesize insights across industry, labor, government, and/or international institutions
Proven ability to build trust and consensus in diverse multi-stakeholder settings, including convening stakeholders with differing perspectives and spanning multiple sectors to deliberate complex issues
Ability to anticipate trends in AI and develop actionable strategies that ensure AI serves the broader economic and social good
Familiarity with advanced AI systems and their societal impacts, with deeper technical expertise an advantage
Demonstrated experience collaborating across teams to successfully deliver high-impact, high-priority projects
Collaborative mindset with experience integrating diverse perspectives into actionable plans
Knowledge of, or direct experience working in, low and medium-income countries, or with international institutions such as but not limited to the United Nations, World Bank, International Monetary Fund or OECD is a plus
