Responsibilities
Under direct, indirect, or intermittent supervision, and working a rotating shift schedule or day schedule as required, to do a general range of plant mechanical equipment installation, repair and overhaul, including ability to perform skilled machinist work requiring tolerances as low as +.0005”
Immediate responsibility at times for working directions of an apprentice
Mechanical equipment includes items such as turbines, pumps, compressors, conveyors, pulverizers, coal samplers, feeders, pulleys, overhead cranes, soot blowers, safety valves, blowers, power transmission equipment
In connection with this work:
Work from drawings and sketches
Check (including Workman’s Protection Assurance where appropriate) to insure that equipment to be worked on has been properly isolated and protected
Obtain required materials from storeroom
Set up rigging and operate lifting equipment
Erect and work from scaffolds
Operate and/or use mobile equipment, shop equipment, portable power tools, other portable tools, hand tools and test equipment as required to accomplish assigned jobs
Operate acetylene or other cutting/heating torches
When necessary, check for explosive gases before operating torches
Prepare reports of work done accompanied by sketches, if necessary; complete such forms as may be required
Work alone or in combination with other Machinist Repairman or Repairman classifications when assigned
Do similar and less skilled work as required

Qualification standards as established in the Apprenticeship Program
Must satisfy requirements as prescribed in the Supplementary Agreement on Uniform Practices Regarding Promotion to Machinist Repairman Jobs
Must be accurate, steady and calm in emergencies
Possess normal physical strength and endurance
Have no color deficiency in vision
