Responsibilities

Evaluate new business, reinstatements, and coverage change requests

Determine underwriting requirements and order necessary medical exams or assessments

Analyze applicant data from various sources including MIB, medical records, financial documents, and motor vehicle reports

Collaborate with financial advisors, Insurance Planning Specialists, and Internal Sales Consultants

Clearly communicate underwriting decisions and provide guidance on potential reconsiderations

Balance workload, advisor expectations and the underwriting team for effective underwriting

Document and update underwriting systems with accurate and timely information

Refer cases to reinsurance or consult with the carrier’s Chief Underwriter or Medical Director as needed

Ensure underwriting decisions align with internal policies, industry standards, and regulatory requirements

Draft correspondence including approval/decline letters, advisory memos, and confidential medical communications

Participate in the development and refinement of underwriting policies, procedures, and systems

Stay current on industry trends, legislation, and best practices

Required

Minimum 5 years of life insurance underwriting experience

AALU designation required; actively pursuing FALU and/or FLMI preferred

Strong knowledge of medical and financial underwriting principles

Proficient in interpreting underwriting manuals, legislation, and insurance product provisions

Exceptional analytical and risk assessment skills

Strong written and verbal communication abilities

Proven leadership and mentoring capabilities

Ability to manage complex cases and make sound, independent decisions

Bachelor's: Business Administration, Bachelor's: Finance, Bachelor's: Marketing

Securities Industry Essentials Exam (SIE) - Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA)

Preferred

Actively pursuing FALU and/or FLMI
