Responsibilities
Advises on healthcare law and regulatory issues arising within clinical practices, health system facilities, and affiliations with external partners, including, but not limited to STARK and Anti-Kickback, EMTALA, HIPAA and other privacy laws, billing and physician and hospital reimbursement compliance, accountable care organizations, acquisitions, government funding, managed care contracting, education agreements, telemedicine, and antitrust
Ensures that all aspects of the University's healthcare provider practices (excluding medical malpractice /risk management) and hospital and clinical facilities meet regulatory requirements
Drafts and reviews legal documents for risk mitigation and legal and regulatory compliance including, but not limited to contracts, leases, affiliation agreements, professional services agreements, memoranda, and litigation-related materials
Advises on new and existing healthcare regulatory policy initiatives; drafts, reviews and revises institutional, hospital, and departmental policies and procedures; serves on and supports hospital and ambulatory policy committees; develops and provides training on a broad range of healthcare law issues
Supports and serves on various healthcare-related institutional, hospital and clinical boards and committees
Provides litigation defense support in limited areas of medical and allied health clinical practices; interacts with UT System Office of General Counsel, the Texas Office of the Attorney General, and private counsel in the defense of claims
Performs other duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
J. D. degree from ABA-accredited law school
3 years Professional legal experience in transactional/regulatory health care practice
License to practice law in the State of Texas Upon Hire
Preferred
Professional legal experience in an academic medical center, hospital system, or similar healthcare setting or in a law firm representing healthcare clients
