Responsibilities
Lead end-to-end architecture and execution for Databricks Unity Catalog modernization initiatives
Define and govern target-state Lakehouse architecture, including UC object model, security, and governance standards
Own technical design decisions across ingestion, transformation, orchestration, and consumption layers
Act as the primary onshore technical point of contact for customer architects, platform teams, and leadership
Manage and mentor offshore data engineering teams, ensuring design adherence and delivery quality
Drive technical planning, sequencing, and dependency management across domains and milestones
Partner closely with Program Managers / PMO on timelines, risks, RAID logs, and execution tracking
Lead design reviews, architecture forums, and governance approvals
Ensure best practices for security, cost optimization (FinOps), performance, and operability
Support cutover, validation, and decommissioning strategies as part of modernization phases
Qualification
Required
12+ years of experience in Data Architecture / Data Engineering
Strong hands-on experience with Databricks on Azure, including Unity Catalog (metastores, catalogs, schemas, RBAC/ABAC)
Delta Lake and Databricks Workflows
Proven experience migrating legacy lakehouse environments to Unity Catalog
Solid understanding of lakehouse architecture (Bronze / Silver / Gold)
Experience integrating Databricks with ADF or similar orchestration tools
Strong SQL and Spark fundamentals (design and review capability)
Proven ability to lead offshore teams and own technical delivery
Strong customer-facing communication and stakeholder management skills
Preferred
Experience with Serverless Compute, Photon, or Declarative Pipelines
Exposure to CDC, streaming, or LakeFlow ingestion patterns
Experience supporting program coordination / PM activities (planning, RAID, milestones)
Azure platform knowledge (ADLS, Key Vault, IAM)
FinOps or cost-optimization exposure
