Transportation Engineer I, II, III, or IV - Bridge Division - Bridge Division
The Texas Department of Transportation is seeking Transportation Engineers for its Bridge Division. The role involves performing transportation engineering work focused on bridge inspection, analyses, and maintenance while ensuring compliance with federal and state laws.

Responsibilities
Inspects bridges according to National Bridge Inspection Standards
Ensures compliance with National Bridge Inspection Standards
Assists in overseeing contracts, issuing work orders and monitoring construction schedules and contractor payments and job progress on construction projects
Assists Project Managers related to resource assignments, schedules, scope, communication, quality, and/or procurement
Monitors consultants' progress and work quality; checks invoices and associated documents; prepares supplemental agreements
Performs inspections, structural evaluations and analyses of bridges and related structures that have appraisal and condition ratings or are recommended for closure
Recommends bridge replacement, bridge rehabilitation and repair of damaged bridges
Reviews designs and detailed drawings of bridges and related structures prepared by other engineers and technicians
Writes reports, specifications, and test procedures
Coordinates with others to develop, monitor and update integrated project plans and schedules to ensure projects are executed in the most efficient manner possible
Makes presentations and represents TxDOT
Performs other job responsibilities as assigned
Assists districts with bridge inspection-related matters
Schedules, assigns and oversees bridge inspection activities
Serves as a primary help desk resource for routine technical and policy issues
Negotiates fees, explains scope of work and monitors consultant inspection contracts
Acts in an advisory capacity on administrative, technical, regulatory and engineering aspects of transportation
Develops and/or reviews engineering related documents, correspondence, reports and remediation plans
May serve as a lead worker and the related tasks
Performs final review, prepares, evaluates and negotiates contracts with consultants for routine, fracture critical and underwater bridge inspections
Chairs or serves as a member of a contract selection team
Coordinates and/or monitors consultant contracts related projects
Develops short-term and long-term goals and coordinates planning activities and resources required to meet goals
Monitors contract performance, evaluates contract deliverables, reviews billing documentation, monitors the consultant's compliance with the terms of the contract, and/or prepares and delivers a written evaluation of the consultant's performance
Serves as a project manager overseeing consultants performing advanced and complex engineering work
Formulates, develops and/or monitors budgets and financial information
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's Degree in engineering or related science bachelor's or higher degree accepted by TX PELS
4 years engineering, transportation engineering, or related engineering experience (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Related graduate level education may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis
5 years engineering, transportation engineering, or related engineering experience (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Related graduate level education may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis

Licensed Prof Engineer
Mandatory: Safety Impact Certificate
Safety Impact certification is not required at the time of application. The Safety Impact certification will be issued by TxDOT at the time of hire
Professional engineers licensed in another state in the United States, but not currently licensed in the State of Texas, must (1) meet the license requirements of the State of Texas Engineering Practices Act, (2) obtain a professional engineering license from the State of Texas within six (6) months of the date of hire, and (3) sign an agreement to that effect as a condition of employment
Structural engineering terminology, principles, practices and methods and the application of engineering theory
Standards and specifications for bridges and other transportation structures
Bridge construction and evaluation methods, procedures and regulations
Bridge inspection and appraisal methods and procedures
Report writing and proofreading skills
Researching, analyzing, and interpreting policies and state and federal laws and regulations specific to functional area
Applying engineering principles, practices, and methods in job responsibilities
Planning, coordinating and handling multiple projects within area of responsibility to meet short and long-term deadlines
