Qualification
Required
M.S. in Food Science and Technology or Food Microbiology or Thermal Processing; or B.S. in Food Science and Technology or Food Microbiology or Thermal Processing and work experience
Experience with a wide variety of food products and preservation processes including aseptic processes, conventional retort processing, acidified products, and food ingredients, and food processing regulations
Experience documenting compliance with Federal, and State
Experience maintaining confidentiality and ability to accurately and efficiently complete paperwork confirming compliance with policy
Skills to perform effective risk assessments and crisis management, to make time-critical decisions concerning product safety and communicate decisions that may have significant safety implications to consumers and significant financial implications to the companies producing product to be recalled
Interpersonal skills to provide a service-oriented atmosphere to State agency personnel as well as industry colleagues who submit products for evaluation
Written and oral communication skills to compose professional and accurate documents
Organizational skills to prioritize, plan, organize, design and carry out sample analyses in an accurate and timely manner
Skills to distribute effort appropriately among the projects to meet deadlines and maintain a high level of productivity
Preferred
Education and experience equivalent to a Master's degree level in the scientific discipline of Food Science and Microbiology
Advanced and in-depth scientific experience in the disciplines of multiple fields of food science and technologies including food processing, food microbiology, thermo-bacteriology, food chemistry/biochemistry and nutritional sciences
Experience reviewing research and project proposals including budgets and contracts
