SENIOR HAZARDOUS SUBSTANCES ENGINEER

California Department of Toxic Substances Control is seeking a Senior Hazardous Substances Engineer to support department project managers overseeing Munitions and Explosives of Concern cleanups statewide. The role involves providing technical evaluations, developing guidance, and ensuring the protection of human health and the environment.

Environmental Services

Responsibilities

Provide expert technical support and responds to technical consultative work requests from SMRP staff in the field of MEC safety, investigation, detection, and destruction technology computing environments
Perform surveys and inspections and completes reports on the management of hazardous substances specifically related to MEC
Review and verify the conformance of maps, drawings, plans and specifications in connection with site investigations
Conduct technical reviews and provide comments on documents submitted by responsible parties, including MEC cleanup plans
Review site conditions, and reviews components of structures for detonation, open burn/open detonation setups and locations
Consult with management, professional and technical personnel regarding methods and locations of detecting MEC, processing, treatment and disposal and resource recovery systems required for the protection of the public health, air, water and land from pollution

Required

MEC-related experience
Experience in the various phases of munitions response to MEC or the performance of range clearance activities
Familiarity with CERCLA, RCRA and Department of Defense remediation MEC policy
Knowledge in the use and application of various MEC detection methodologies and technologies
Possess an understanding of QC and QA practices associated with MEC-related activities and managing and processing MPPEH, including documentation of its explosive's safety status
Current and valid professional engineering license with the State of California
