Responsibilities
Prepare and review federal and state tax returns including 1120, 1065, and 1040
Manage multi-state tax filings and related planning
Provide proactive tax planning and advisory services for owner-managed and small businesses
Research and resolve complex tax issues
Manage ongoing relationships with a portfolio of small business clients
Lead client meetings and act as a primary point of contact
Communicate timelines, deliverables, and expectations clearly
Provide practical guidance beyond compliance
Coach and mentor junior and intermediate staff
Review tax returns and workpapers for accuracy and completeness
Assist with workload planning and deadline management
Support a culture of learning, accountability, and strong client service
Manage multiple tax engagements simultaneously, especially during peak season
Coordinate priorities, deadlines, and resources
Ensure timely completion of work to quality standards
Use tax and accounting software such as QuickBooks, UltraTax, Canopy, or similar
Maintain accurate documentation within firm systems
Qualification
Required
Strong recent experience in public accounting
Hands-on and review experience with 1120, 1065, and 1040
Experience managing client relationships and leading teams
Strong organizational and project management skills
Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
Preferred
8–10+ years of progressive public accounting experience preferred
Experience working with small and mid-sized businesses
CPA preferred, but equivalent public accounting experience will be considered
