SAFETY REPRESENTATIVE I

Responsibilities

Solves problems of limited scope and complexity following established policies and procedures relative to managing and promoting the corporate safety program in compliance with OSHA regulations
Inspects machinery, equipment, and working conditions in industrial or other setting to ensure compliance with occupational safety and health regulations
Inspects machines and equipment for accident prevention devices
Assists in designing and developing safety policies, practices, and procedures to reduce the frequency of work related accidents and injuries with emphasis on aggressive prevention efforts
Assists in the evaluating results of the safety program and makes recommendations for changes and/or improvements
Observes workers to determine use of prescribed safety equipment such as glasses, helmets, goggles, respirators, and clothing
Trains workers in accident prevention techniques and skills
Oversees the collection, distribution, and communication of educational material and information pertaining to the storing, handling, and disposing of hazardous materials
Assists in coordinating with government agencies for inspections by attending meetings with agency representatives and developing programs that comply with government standards
Inspects specified areas for fire prevention equipment and other safety and first-aid supplies
Prepares report of findings with recommendations for corrective action
Performs other duties as required. These duties may include assignments in job classifications and departments other than the primary assignment

Required

Minimum 4 Year / Bachelors Degree. If applicable, a combination of experience and training may be substituted for the education requirement

Communicates effectively using electronic media and in written and verbal forms
Makes telephone and direct personal contact with internal and external personnel and makes formal presentations to small or large groups
Competent in the use of standard software applications such as Microsoft Word and Excel
Must be able to work in excess of eight (8) hours per day and five (5) days per week, if required
Those who work at NORDAM Repair Division must be able to ascend and descend stairs
