Azure Engineer

The Azure Government Cloud Engineer provides operational and lifecycle support for the Department of the Treasury, Office of Inspector General Azure Government Cloud environment, ensuring a secure and compliant infrastructure. This role involves designing, deploying, and maintaining cloud infrastructure, as well as managing identity and access, monitoring, and disaster recovery processes.

Responsibilities

Design, deploy, configure, and maintain Azure Government cloud infrastructure in accordance with FedRAMP, NIST 800-53, and Treasury OIG security requirements
Administer Azure networking components including VNets, subnets, NSGs, route tables, Azure Firewall policies, VPN and ExpressRoute gateways
Implement and manage Zero Trust network segmentation, logging, and monitoring using Azure Monitor and Microsoft Defender
Provide Identity and Access Management (IAM) support using Azure Active Directory / Entra ID, including RBAC, MFA, SSO, and least-privilege access controls
Deploy, manage, and maintain Windows and Linux virtual machines using Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) templates and approved configuration standards
Perform operating system patching, vulnerability remediation, disk encryption, tagging, backup configuration, and performance optimization
Support Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) clusters including RBAC configuration, monitoring, and network policy enforcement
Design, deploy, and manage database platforms including Azure SQL Database and open-source databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL), ensuring encryption, backups, high availability, and secure access
Configure and maintain monitoring, alerting, diagnostics, and performance baselining using Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and Application Insights
Support security incident response, troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and remediation activities
Assist with disaster recovery, continuity of operations (COOP), and backup strategy implementation and validation
Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of infrastructure configurations, security controls, and system changes
Produce monthly system status, health, patch, and vulnerability reports in accordance with Government requirements

Required

U.S. Citizen
Eligibility to obtain and maintain a Moderate Risk (Tier 2) background investigation or higher
Demonstrated experience supporting Microsoft Azure Government environments
Hands-on experience with Azure networking, firewall, and security services
Experience implementing IAM solutions using Azure AD / Entra ID
Knowledge of FedRAMP, NIST 800-53, and federal cloud security requirements
Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code (ARM, Bicep, Terraform, or equivalent)
Experience supporting Linux and Windows operating systems in cloud environments
Strong documentation and reporting skills

Preferred

Experience supporting Treasury, OIG, or other federal financial agencies
Experience with Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS)
Experience supporting secure file transfer services
Familiarity with disaster recovery and continuity planning in hybrid cloud environments
