Executive Director, Kenya Connect U.S.

Kenya Connect is a 501(C3) organization that funds operations at its sister NGO in rural Kenya, focusing on improving educational outcomes for children. The Executive Director, USA will lead fundraising efforts, develop strategic partnerships, and ensure effective program implementation to support the organization’s mission.

Responsibilities

Collaborate with the Board of Trustees to create and implement the strategic plan, fundraising strategy, and performance metrics that align with the organization’s mission and in conjunction with the Kenya Connect staff
Work closely with the Board Executive Committee and bookkeeper to develop and monitor the annual budget, ensuring compliance, financial health and sustainability
Research grant opportunities and develop and submit proposals in collaboration with the Kenyan staff
Build and maintain relationships with individual donors, foundations, educational institutions, and religious and community organizations to support and grow the donor base
Develop the strategy, theme and materials for fund raising campaigns (including our Annual Drive)
Manage all fundraising events, including the annual 5K race and other special events, ensuring successful planning and execution
Oversee all fundraising initiatives, including managing the donor database (Bloomerang) and ensuring Kenya Connect is featured on major fundraising platforms like GlobalGiving, Charity Navigator, and Benevity
Lead volunteer trips to Kenya 2-3 times a year, providing meaningful experiences for participants and fostering community engagement
Cultivate and nurture strategic partnerships with organizations such as Team4Tech, Level Up Village, LitWorld, Rotary Clubs, and others to enhance program offerings and resource mobilization. Develop and establish new strategic partnerships with organizations
Collaborate with staff in Kenya to support program implementation and ensure alignment with organizational goals
Work with Kenyan Staff to ensure effective monitoring and evaluation across all programs. Effectively communicate and provide the information to donors and grant reports
Develop and execute effective communication strategies including social media, e-newsletters, and press releases, to engage stakeholders and promote Kenya Connect’s mission
Ensure compliance with U.S. nonprofit regulations and maintain best practices in fundraising and program delivery
Stay professionally active with like-minded NGOs and partners to understand trends in education and opportunities

Required

US Citizen with proven experience in nonprofit leadership, fundraising, and program management
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders
Successful experience with fundraising including researching and applying for grants, individual solicitations, creating campaigns, soliciting donations and managing development events
Demonstrated ability to develop strategic partnerships and cultivate donor relationships with individuals, corporations and community groups
Experience in financial management and budgeting
Proficiency in social media and digital marketing strategies
Passion for education and community empowerment in Kenya
Earned Bachelor's degree
