Engineering Residential Faculty

Responsibilities

Instructs students in engineering science courses, with an emphasis on developing the students’ critical thinking and problem-solving skills; utilizes various inclusive and high-impact teaching methods/principles to promote effective learning in students with diverse abilities, levels of academic preparation, ages, and socio-economic/cultural backgrounds
Develops instructional materials; creates syllabi/class outlines and evaluates students’ comprehension of the subject matter; makes and grades assignments, projects, quizzes, and exams; develops and assesses program objectives and course outcomes for curriculum improvement, holds academic support hours for students, with the purpose of answering questions that students may have over the subject matters being taught and/or provides academic advisement to students planning to major in an engineering discipline
Assists and/or leads departmental efforts to build and maintain the engineering program at CGCC; commits to student success and works together with other CGCC employees on student recruitment initiatives and community outreach efforts; advises engineering students; facilitates partnerships with in-state universities for transfer programs and grants; participates in outreach activities to middle schools, high schools, and other STEM programs; creates and maintains partnerships with engineers in industry; and attends the CGCC engineering student club meetings and/or takes students on engineering related field trips
Contributes to college governance by serving on college and/or district committees; collaborates with the Engineering Instructional Council faculty in developing course and program curriculum; contributes to the engineering department’s program reviews and improvement initiatives; participating in the engineering departments’ Community Advisory Council; contributes to college’s strategic planning and accreditation efforts; builds and maintains collaborative external partnerships; participates in dual enrollment supervision & evaluation
Works with other faculty within the engineering department to ensure that students in different class sections are getting a similar learning experience from all of the engineering instructors, and are well prepared to take upper-level engineering courses at a university
Assists the division chair in deciding the best use of the department’s funds and other resources to support the incorporation of technology into an integrated lecture/lab setting; works with student workers and lab technicians to provide them with guidance in the setup of equipment in the classrooms and the maintenance of tools in the engineering workroom

Required

Master's degree or higher in the teaching field
Master's degree or higher in any field with 18 graduate credit hours in the teaching field
Possession of a valid State of Arizona Class D Driver's License is required
Must meet district standards regarding driving college vehicles

Preferred

Recent engineering teaching experience at the college level, including teaching in introductory engineering courses, in multiple modalities
Experience working in the Industry as an engineer
Experience using interactive and innovative techniques to reach a diverse student population
Experience providing academic leadership, program administration, and staff management
Experience teaching Matlab and SolidWorks
Experience teaching Engineering Mechanics-Statics, Engineering Mechanics-Dynamics, and Mechanics of Materials
