Senior Payroll and Customer Service Representative

Responsibilities
Serves as the expert staff resource responsible for handling difficult and complex payroll and benefit issues
Researches critical personnel problems and recommends alternative solutions
Responsible for reviewing various control agency letters, memos, bargaining unit contract provisions, and developing/revising internal procedures
Regularly required to complete a variety of personnel transactions and act as a lead/trainer in the areas of timesheets, attendance records, leave accruals, benefits, record keeping, personnel document processing, and a wide range of related personnel transactions functions
Exercising a high degree of confidentiality, initiative, responsibility, independence, and customer service when performing assigned tasks
Utilizes Business Information System (BIS) data for many daily activities
Qualification
Required
Thorough and detailed knowledge of appropriate laws, rules, and regulations from the California Department of Human Resources (CalHR), State Controller's Office (SCO), California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS), and other control agencies
Ability to handle difficult and complex payroll and benefit issues
Experience in completing a variety of personnel transactions
Ability to act as a lead/trainer in the areas of timesheets, attendance records, leave accruals, benefits, record keeping, personnel document processing, and related personnel transactions functions
High degree of confidentiality, initiative, responsibility, independence, and customer service
Experience using Business Information System (BIS) data for daily activities
Possession of Minimum Qualifications will be verified prior to interview and/or appointment
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with all levels of staff
Ability to work independently, cooperatively, and effectively with staff at various levels
Strong organizational skills
Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment
Exceptional customer service skills
Ability to handle and adjust to multiple assignments, priorities, and critical deadlines
Preferred
Familiarity with State personnel and accounting policies and procedures
