Database Administrator

Government Administration

Responsibilities

Create and maintain backups, alerts, reports, database integrity checks, and automated jobs
Perform backup recovery, clean up files, update stats, and review error logs
Monitor, audit, optimize, troubleshoot, and establish baselines using Database Management System (DBMS) tools and applications
Plan for DBMS configuration changes, system resources, and workloads
Install, configure, patch, upgrade, and manage DBMS and associated databases
Manage Microsoft SQL Server security, user accounts, permissions, and user tracking
Document configurations, security, activities, maintenance, and operations
Research, recommend, and implement new database applications and architectures
Create or support creation of reports and analytics based on user needs
Assist with building and maintaining a data warehouse system integrating data from distinct systems to support the City’s Business Analyst
Assist in developing departmental Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to provide insights and data-driven results
Plan and manage data migrations and system integrations

Required

Bachelor's degree with coursework in management information systems, database administration, computer science, or a related field
Three years of increasingly responsible experience in database systems
Ability to maintain local residency within 100 miles of Durango, CO upon hire
Strong working knowledge of SQL Server, including Management Studio, licensing, and security, with experience in backups, performance tuning, and troubleshooting
Solid understanding of the .NET environment, web services, and XML open standards
Familiarity with network architectures (client/server, internet/intranet, enterprise), LAN/WAN telecommunications, and system security principles
Ability to analyze data, solve complex problems, and develop logical solutions for computer applications and programming
Ability to communicate technical information in a user-friendly way to technical and non-technical users
Ability to work well in a collaborative team environment and build positive relationships across the IT team and the organization
Adaptability and eagerness to learn new technologies and procedures
