The N.C. Department of Adult Correction is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives through various correctional services. They are seeking a Judicial Division Director to oversee the operations and management of the Judicial Division, ensuring effective offender supervision and policy implementation.

Responsibilities

Provide leadership, management and direction to senior level staff and input in the development and design of new and innovative programs
Identify areas of improvement and establish methods to implement and measure efficient improvement strategies
Review goals and work progress with management team and approve interim supervision/ action plans
Review and approve non routine disciplinary actions to ensure management consistency
Make site visits to the judicial districts and field probation offices, and participates in stakeholder meetings to ensure the agency’s mission is being promoted and upheld
Ensure proper balance of caseloads by strategically placing positions within the appropriate geographical location
Review reports and internal audits and provide feedback to appropriate persons
Review minutes from district office meetings and use data to assist in identifying and executing required operational suggestions/changes
Set and review work standards when considering requests for policy modifications/exceptions related to interim supervision plans, SOPs, and local practices
Understand caseload numbers, the dynamics of various sanctions, and unique needs of individual county courts and districts
Understand offender treatment resources available through the communities within the division
Have knowledge of operational trends, using data and reports to anticipate and develop proactive responses
Be adept at public speaking, conducting meetings and presentations to effectively communicate the department's mission and goals
Possess excellent written communication skills
Collaborate with the Director of Administration in the areas of human resources, motor fleet management, fiscal control of assets, lease oversight, and budget matters related to the district

Required

Bachelor's degree from an appropriately accredited institution
Four years of experience in corrections
Three additional years of experience in corrections management
Position is certified through the NC Dept. of Justice - Criminal Justice Standards Division; applicants must be eligible for certification
Advanced knowledge and understanding of NCVIP processes and related approaches for employee development, including coaching, mentoring, discipline, and accountability methods
In-depth knowledge of subordinate staff positions, and DAC/DCS goals, objectives and policy
Proven experience applying knowledge of the NC General Statutes, Post-release Supervision and Parole Commission, and Institutions
Experience providing budgetary oversight and fiscal management for a work area, reviewing and monitoring budgetary expenditures
Demonstrated ability and experience expressing ideas effectively and clearly in written and verbal communication with offenders, the public, peers, supervisors, legislators, the judiciary, and other stakeholders
