Part-Time Account Clerk

The City of Bell Gardens is seeking a Part-Time Account Clerk to support the Financial Department. The role involves performing clerical work related to payroll processing, customer service, and general accounting support.

Responsibilities

Assist in the preparation and processing of payroll, ensuring accuracy and timeliness; enter, review, and verify payroll data in the payroll system; respond to payroll-related inquiries from employees and management
Prepare and assist with payroll-related tax reports, including Form 941, W-2s, and other federal, state, and local filings
Assist with year-end payroll processing and reporting; support the department in maintaining compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations
Customer service and cash handling/management; answering telephones and operating the City Hall switchboard; responds to inquires in person or by phone, providing explanation of established procedures and work unit policies
Assist with verifying claims, warrants, deposit slips, reports and other records for accuracy and consistency
Assembles, sorts, tabulates and files fiscal and statistical data; performs computer data entry and maintains manual records; adjust and balances accounts
Prepares and otherwise processes various bills and invoices; prepares entries, tabulations, standard forms, and routine documents according to specific instructions
Maintains related files; operates data terminal, calculators, and other standard office equipment as required
Issues routine correspondence to vendors, businesses, or the public according to established procedures
Contact financial institutions, vendors, businesses, the public, or other agencies to verify or obtain routine information regarding City financial activity
Processes accounts receivable by issuing invoice numbers, entering invoice into computer an accepting payment
Provide other general administrative and accounting support as needed; may service as alternate for accounts receivable/payable; performs related tasks as required

Required

High school graduation or equivalent
AA degree or some college coursework in accounting or bookkeeping highly desirable
General fiscal and financial record keeping knowledge is highly desirable with two years related experience
Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing with a high level of customer service
Establish and maintain effective working relationships
Ability to perform clerical accounting work skillfully and accurately
Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and other computer programs
