Community Service Officer I/II

Responsibilities

Provides administrative and operations support in emergency and non-emergency situations
Provides information and assistance to the public, answers questions related to public safety
Conducts investigations to compose written reports and other documents; delivers documents to other offices and locations
Maintains patrol vehicles and equipment; performs routine maintenance checks; washes and refuels vehicles and maintains records related to repair or maintenance
May process crime scenes using photography and forensic identification tools to obtain latent and comparison prints for possible suspect identification
Collects and tags evidence into property
Marks, cites, and removes parked vehicles for various violations from City streets and parking lots
Provides traffic control at accident, crime, and disaster scenes, special assignments, and events
Sets up and takes down radar trailer at various locations within the city limits
Conducts traffic accident investigations for non-injury and minor injury accidents
Provides crime prevention information and presentations to the community
Conducts security inspections and recommends improvements
Serves on various internal and external committees to accomplish department needs/goals
Trains new employees as assigned; and
Performs related duties and responsibilities as assigned

Required

High school diploma or equivalent
Possession of an appropriate, valid California driver's license at time of appointment
Experience or training in emergency services is highly desirable for Community Service Officer I
Three years of experience as a Community Service Officer for Community Service Officer II
Ability to travel to different sites and locations
Ability to sit, stand, walk, run, kneel, crouch, stoop, squat, crawl, twist, climb, and lift 50 lbs
Exposure to heat, noise, outdoors, vibration, confining work space, chemicals, explosive materials, mechanical hazards, and electrical hazards
Ability to sit for long periods of time and reach; ability to work in an enclosed environment with limited mobility; availability for shift work
