Responsibilities

Primary responsibility is to support the State Invasive Species Program through watercraft inspection & decontamination at various locations throughout Colorado, as needed
Work will either be completed independently or in pairs to inspect boats launching and leaving the reservoir, or at roadside checkpoints with respect to invasive species such as zebra/quagga mussels
Provide public outreach on the aquatic invasive species topic by collecting survey information and providing guidance on best practices to prevent the spread of invasive species. Includes attending public events
When assistance at watercraft inspection and decontamination sites is not needed, the position will support the Program Manager and Invasive Species Specialists by performing a variety of tasks including: quality control assessment, sampling and monitoring, inventory management, education and outreach, reviewing and editing technical reports, distribution of supplies to field locations, and data entry
The position will report directly to the office at the James M. Robb Corn Lake Section for assignment. Boat inspection and outreach training will be provided
This position requires regular overnight travel and distance driving. Early morning, evening & weekend work required

Required

Good driving record and ability to travel extensively with overnight stays is mandatory
Ability to drive long hours and remain alert
Must be willing to be flexible with the weekday and weekend work schedule
Early morning, evening, and weekend work required
Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) are required
Excellent organization skills and attention to detail

Preferred

Bachelor's Degree in Biological Sciences or comparable work experience
Knowledge of boat and trailer anatomy, ability to trailer boats/decontamination (power washer) units on highways and steep mountain roads
Experience with Microsoft Word applications– Word, Excel, Access
