The role involves performing technical work in the installation, maintenance, and repair of underground and overhead electrical distribution lines, while ensuring safety standards are met.

Responsibilities
Operates and maintains line trucks; service trucks as needed; checks and keeps equipment in good operating condition, operates trenchers, and other light, medium, and heavy equipment
Helps in locating underground utilities and positioning digging equipment to avoid obstructions
Participates in installing conduit, pulling cable, setting pad mount transformers and making electrical connections
Participates with Journeyman level line workers in performing primary and secondary line work
Connects and disconnects single phase and compound electric meters in meter bases
Serves in the on-call rotation and responds to call-back when conditions mandate
Performs related duties as required
Qualification
Required
Graduation from high school supplemented by technical training in electrical principles and some experience in a skilled trade, preferably electrical; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Possession of a valid North Carolina commercial driver's license
Possession of or ability to obtain certification as a graduate of Basic Climbing school, Basic Lineman school, Basic Underground School, Basic Metering school, Substation school, Transformer school and Electric Safety certification as required by the City
Training in Basic First Aid and AED use and Arc Flash Safety
Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing and repetitive motions
Must be able to perform heavy work exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects
Must possess the visual acuity to operate mobile equipment, monitor work site progress, perform skilled electrical tasks, and inspect and assemble small parts
