Design Manager

Responsibilities

Own creative execution across assigned OTHR accounts, ensuring ideas are spatially sound, visually compelling, and executable
Personally lead creative on 3-5 key accounts per year to stay close to the work and model OTHR’s creative standard
Lead art direction across projects, ensuring visual cohesion, clarity of concept, and consistency from pitch through install
Translate high-level creative direction into architectural and experiential design frameworks that guide Producers and Coordinators
Design and develop event visuals to include; CAD drawings, Rhino models, and 3D renderings to ensure feasibility, accuracy, and design integrity
Partner closely with fabricators, vendors, and internal teams to resolve design challenges before they reach production
Maintain a personal annual quota of $2.5Min managed programs
Own creative scopes, timelines, and deliverables from concept through execution for assets/critical path items managed
Ensure creative intent is preserved through value engineering, material selection, and production constraints
Identify creative and technical risk early; over-design, misalignment, constructability issues and course-correct
Hold accountability for creative success or failure on assigned accounts
Travel as needed to oversee creative install, manage on-site adjustments, and maintain design integrity through the final execution
Lead, manage, and develop Creative Producers and Creative Production Coordinators
Train Producers through live client work with the goal of full creative account ownership
Provide clear art direction, technical guidance, and feedback across design development
Develop team fluency in spatial thinking, materials, and build processes not just aesthetics
Hold the team accountable for rigor, documentation quality, and follow-through
Build and refine creative workflows, templates, and documentation standards
Ensure clean handoffs between creative, logistics, and fabrication teams
Reduce rework by enforcing clarity early; drawings, models, budgets, and decisions
Create systems that allow creativity to scale without dilution
Lead creative conversations with clients, translating goals and brand into spatial experiences
Guide clients through creative decisions with confidence and clarity
Ensure clients feel supported, educated, and aligned throughout the creative process
Review client feedback and creative outcomes and adjust approach as needed
Position OTHR as a creative and experiential thought partner — not just a production resource
Partner with leadership on creative forecasting and resourcing
Balance personal execution, team leadership, and strategic planning
Identify opportunities to elevate creative output while maintaining operational discipline
Support executive team in planning future creative roles and skill needs

Required

Creative operator with a designer's brain and a builder's mindset
Understanding of space, structure, materials, and sequencing
Ability to translate creative vision into buildable reality
Fluency in architectural thinking, guest journey, and visual communication
Ability to develop CAD drawings, design in Rhino, create 3D models
Ability to spot issues before they reach the shop or the site
Comfortable leading art direction across projects
Ability to guide taste, refine ideas, and ensure consistency from pitch through install
Ability to push the work further and simplify to protect budget, timeline, and impact
