The State of Utah's Department of Alcoholic Beverage Services (DABS) is seeking a Director of Internal Audit to ensure the effectiveness of internal controls, risk management, and compliance with regulations. This role involves planning and conducting audits, evaluating financial and operational controls, and presenting findings to the commission and management.

Responsibilities

Plan and conduct internal audits in accordance with approved audit plans, public sector auditing standards, and government regulations

Review and evaluate financial, operational, and compliance controls across DABS divisions and programs

Assess compliance with applicable laws, regulations, government policies, and directives

Evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of DABS programs

Identify risks, control weaknesses, and instances of noncompliance

Prepare clear, objective audit reports outlining findings, conclusions, and recommendations

Present audit results to the commission and DABS management

Follow-up on implementation of audit recommendations and corrective actions

Assist with fraud risk assessments, investigations, and special reviews when assigned

Coordinate with external auditors, regulators, and oversight agencies

Promote accountability and continuous improvement within the organization

Required

Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, public administration, or a related field or 4 years of professional audit/finance/management experience

Strong analytical and investigative skills

Knowledge of internal control frameworks and risk-based auditing

Strong written and verbal communication skills

Ability to interpret laws, regulations, and policy documents

Ability to work independently and collaboratively across divisions

Strong organizational and time-management skills

21 years of age or older

Able to pass a background check
