Responsibilities
Responding to public and agency inquiries and complaints related to traffic operations and safety
Reviewing and approving traffic signal designs, signing and striping plans, and traffic control plans
Participating in special events coordination meetings and preparing traffic handling plans
Coordinating with developers and consultants on project scoping agreements and Traffic Impact Studies
Overseeing the collection, tabulation, and analysis of traffic and transportation data
Supervising and coordinating work orders for the installation, removal, or replacement of traffic signs, pavement markings, protective structures, and street lighting
Coordinating with property owners, school representatives, public officials, and civic organizations regarding traffic engineering issues
Coordinating traffic engineering activities with other City departments, divisions, sections, and outside agencies
Providing staff support and participating in committees, commissions, and citizen advisory groups related to transportation and traffic matters
Conducting field observations related to traffic requests, complaints, and safety concerns
Supervising and participating in traffic and transportation studies performed by outside consultants
Preparing technical reports, correspondence, and formal studies
Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with community organizations, state and local agencies, municipal management, staff, and the general public
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a closely related field
Minimum of ten (10) years of professional traffic engineering experience in a public-agency environment
Active registration as a Traffic Engineer in the State of California (required)
Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, exercise sound professional judgment, and work independently
