Sr. Director, Technical Assistance Unit

Responsibilities

Provides expertise in consulting with jurisdictions around what we know works in child welfare, as well as sequencing and implementation. Consults directly with leaders in child welfare and with Casey strategic consultants to analyze and recommend effective measures in achieving safe reduction, permanency, and prevention
Oversees the delivery of effective analysis and technical assistance to support systemic and transformational change. Mobilizes the TAU team to prioritize and provide effective assistance either directly or through others in sharing best practices and research
Ensures and fosters the TAU team’s effective collaboration with other Casey work units, jurisdiction representatives, external partners, and constituents to implement and further the focus area goals of Casey; including assistance in internal and external consulting roles as well as on the ground activities in jurisdictions
Leads and supervises the Director-level team to model high performance, shared leadership and teamwork to support TAU staff for optimal performance, leadership and professional development. Leads evaluation and quality improvement efforts of TAU
Ensures all work of the TAU unit is aligned with and furthers the 2020 vision to ultimately reduce the number of children in foster care and reinvest in prevention and family support efforts
Develops and maintains TAU’s budget in collaboration with the Managing Director and reports on monthly variances and spending projections
Ensures adherence to Casey policies in all matters of practice, contracts, communications, resources, personnel and reporting
Works on organizational projects and acts as a committee member, and performs other duties as assigned

Required

Bachelor's degree required
Master's degree or a minimum of ten years progressive management responsibilities with child welfare or comparable agencies or extensive effective experience in key areas of child welfare at top levels required. Must bring credibility to conversations and consultations about our mission through extensive background and knowledge in key areas of child welfare
Experience in facilitation, solution focused mindset, convening large groups of individuals to collaborate and support local, state, and national data informed outcomes for children and families
Demonstrate skills and knowledge in multiple methods, resources, and approaches that enhances relational coordination and trust with internal and external partners
Experience in and knowledge of child welfare funding, resource allocation, effective strategies for improvement, and leadership development required
A balance of assertiveness and diplomacy is critical as well as the ability to analyze, consult and provide inquiry that impacts the planning and work of a jurisdiction or team to effectively achieve goals
Experience in supervision, strategic planning, systems integration, operational achievement of goals and an in-depth understanding of complex multi-state child welfare systems required. Skills and attributes in collaboration, teaming, systems thinking, organizational development and a commitment to positive youth development and permanency
Excellent verbal and written communications skills are necessary; the successful candidate must be able to work effectively under pressure and to remain flexible throughout change to manage the needs of jurisdiction partners, the organization and the staff
Requires demonstrated listening, evaluation and assessment skills. Strong management skills required. A commitment recognizing the strength in diversity essential
Requires demonstrated expertise in the following areas - relationship-building skills, analytical skills, communication skills, implementation skills, and continuous quality improvement skills
Experience in and solid working knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Share Point etc.) required. Ability to learn other pertinent software programs as required
This is a regular full-time position that may require travel 50% or more of the time
Ability to perform effectively in high pressure and stressful work environment while balancing the responsibilities and stressors inherent in the role
Regular and reliable attendance is required
Physical requirements include the ability to lift and reach for light objects; ability to type and work at a computer for extended periods of time as a primary job function
Ability to protect the confidentiality of sensitive information by learning and following all relevant policies and protocols and using sound judgment in the handling and sharing of that information
Driving on Casey business may require use of personal vehicle; adherence to vehicle safety guidelines and qualification for insurance is required
