HVAC Journeyman Technician

Upchurch is a rapidly growing, full-service building engineering company providing mechanical, plumbing, HVAC, and electrical services across the southeastern United States. The HVAC Journeyman Technician is responsible for troubleshooting, servicing, repairing, and installing commercial and residential HVAC systems, requiring strong knowledge of HVAC equipment and the ability to work independently while ensuring customer satisfaction.

Responsibilities

Diagnose and repair HVAC equipment including RTUs, split systems, heat pumps, furnaces, air handlers, and related components
Perform preventative maintenance, inspections, start-ups, and system performance testing
Troubleshoot electrical and control issues (motors, contactors, relays, thermostats, control boards, VFDs as applicable)
Recover, evacuate, and charge refrigerant in compliance with EPA regulations; locate and repair leaks
Read and interpret wiring diagrams, service manuals, and blueprints to complete repairs and installations
Document work orders, parts used, and recommended repairs; communicate findings clearly to customers and leadership
Maintain service vehicle/equipment (as applicable) and ensure proper tool/material readiness
Follow all safety procedures, PPE requirements, and company policies
Support apprentices/helpers as needed and promote best practices and quality workmanship
Participate in on-call rotation and overtime as required (if applicable)

Required

Journeyman-level HVAC experience (4+ years), with strong troubleshooting and repair skills
EPA Section 608 certification
Solid understanding of HVAC electrical systems, refrigeration cycle, airflow, and controls
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and provide excellent customer service
Valid driver's license and clean driving record (as required)
Ability to pass pre-employment screening (as applicable)
Strong communication, organization, and time-management skills

Preferred

HVAC Journeyman license
NATE certification
Experience with commercial refrigeration, BAS/controls, or chiller systems
OSHA 10/30
