10+ years expTesla is looking for a highly motivated Mechanical development engineer to create, develop and scale up manufacturing processes for their cutting-edge battery cell manufacturing line. This role involves working closely with various teams to develop innovative processes and optimize battery manufacturing, contributing significantly to Tesla's products.

Responsibilities
Drive development of new/innovative manufacturing processes from proof of concept through to full scale production that enable improved battery performance and/or cost
Be an expert leader in the technical discussion and define process and Equipment development roadmap for Cell assembly processes – laser welding battery
Work with internal and external teams to develop innovative process, product and equipment design solutions to advance battery performance and cell manufacturing
Plan and Execute DoEs to characterize boundary conditions and optimize process for manufacturability and quality
Develop and manage PFMEA, DFMEA risk assessments to prioritize process improvement projects and ensure adequate metrology and controls are in place
Use tools like Minitab/JMP for data analysis and presentation of experimental data
Establish process controls for SPC and develop process related OCAPs
Lead product design for manufacturability (DFM), DFMEA and sustainability
Analysis of product design and identification of potential risks to the process
Run CAE/CFD simulations to theoretically understand /De-risk new process/Equipment design changes
Qualification
Required
Degree or Equivalent Experience in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related field
10+ years relevant experience in interdisciplinary/integrated engineering, process development, manufacturing engineering, or 5+ years in Battery R&D and Manufacturing in a commercial lithium-ion environment
10+ years tooling engineering experience in a high-volume manufacturing environment with strong focus on Experience with laser welding process and equipment development applications is preferred
Evidence of Deep understanding of engineering fundamentals and ability to apply them towards manufacturing process development
Demonstrated capabilities in manufacturing process development for new products and Ability to transfer technologies from R&D into manufacturing is required - Manufacturing process specification and evaluation experience
Understanding of material properties for steel & aluminum
Proven ability to successfully manage multiple projects and meet deliverable deadlines amidst changing requirements, deadlines, and priorities
Strong Leadership, teamwork, and communication skills
Ability to collaborate effectively across multiple cross-functional teams and suppliers
Preferred
10+ years tooling engineering experience in a high-volume manufacturing environment with strong focus on Experience with laser welding process and equipment development applications is preferred
