Engineer-In-Training I, Traffic - Durango

The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) is dedicated to enhancing the safety and efficiency of transportation in Colorado. They are seeking an Engineer-In-Training I to assist in delivering traffic and safety engineering projects under the supervision of a licensed Professional Engineer, while gaining valuable engineering expertise.

Responsibilities

Learn to deliver traffic and safety capital engineering projects and maintenance projects
Learn to conduct Scoping, Field Inspection Review (FIR) and Final Office Review (FOR) meetings
Learn to collaborate with regional internal specialty units and maintenance to obtain clearances, assure plan set and specification accuracy, consistency, and compliance with CDOT project delivery
Learn how to develop design schedules, engineer estimates, specification packages and construction plan sets using Microstation OpenRoads
Learn to design traffic signals, intersections, Multi-modal/ADA, signing/striping, safety, and other highway improvement projects, utilizing traffic and safety engineering fundamentals and available guidance
Learn to manage consultants for Traffic and Safety project delivery
Learn to provide input on issues that arise during construction of projects
Learn to provide traffic and safety engineering support to the permits unit, local agency projects and capital engineering projects
Learn to complete construction plan set and specification review from a traffic and safety standpoint
Learn to inspect contractor's equipment, materials, workmanship, and products to ensure they are in conformance with contracts, plans and specifications, and maintain related documentation
Learn to respond to customer service calls, through researching crash data, existing roadway conditions and providing the findings to the public

Required

A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in engineering or engineering technology
Current enrollment as an Engineer Intern by the Colorado Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Professional Land Surveyors; OR
Current, valid licensure as a Professional Engineer from the Colorado State Board of Licensure for Architects, Professional Engineers, and Professional Land Surveyors
If you are selected, you must provide a copy of your transcript showing that an engineering degree has been conferred by the date of hire as a condition of employment
It is a CDOT condition of employment that individuals hired to the class of Engineer-In-Training I must obtain enrollment as an Engineer Intern by the Colorado State Board of Licensure for Architects, Professional Engineers and Professional Land Surveyors within three years of the initial appointment to the EIT I classification
It is a CDOT condition of employment that individuals hired to the class of Engineer-In-Training must obtain registration as a Professional Engineer by the Colorado State Board of Licensure for Architects, Professional Engineers and Professional Land Surveyors within eight years of the initial appointment to the EIT classification
Must pass a pre-employment screening which may include social security number trace, criminal records check, public court records check, educational records, and driving records checks
A current valid driver's license is required for this position as it requires operating a state or personal motor vehicle to perform one or more essential functions of the position

Experience with MicroStation and Open Roads programs
Fluency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access), Trns-Port, 3-D modeling software, SiteManager, Gmail, Google Apps, SAP, and the ability to quickly learn other software systems
