Controls Engineer

LHH is a leading manufacturer of custom industrial equipment, and they are seeking a talented Controls Engineer. In this role, you’ll take ownership of PLC and HMI programming from concept through commissioning, ensuring systems run safely, efficiently, and reliably.

Responsibilities

Design, build, and implement PLC and HMI applications for new equipment and system upgrades (primarily Rockwell/Allen‑Bradley)
Lead FAT/SAT, shop tests, and field commissioning to verify that systems meet functional specs, safety standards, and customer requirements
Create clear project documentation (I/O lists, functional specs, test plans, operator guides) and maintain revision control
Partner with Mechanical, Electrical, and Project Management to plan schedules , align milestones, and keep projects on time and within budget
Conduct post‑project reviews to capture lessons learned and drive continuous improvement
Provide remote/on‑site troubleshooting support to internal teams and end users

Required

B.S. in Electrical Engineering (or related)
~3–5+ years in industrial controls/automation
Strong PLC/HMI programming & troubleshooting with Allen‑Bradley: Studio 5000/RSLogix 5000, PanelView (FactoryTalk View Studio ME), and PowerFlex drives
Solid understanding of electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic controls; able to read schematics and interface controls with machinery
Comfortable working independently and on cross‑functional project teams; polished customer‑facing communication skills
Willing and able to travel up to ~30% (some international) for training, installs, and start‑ups

Preferred

Siemens (TIA Portal, Comfort Panels, VFDs) and/or Mitsubishi PLC/HMI/VFD experience
Robotics exposure (e.g., Fanuc), plus barcoding/RFID integrations
Experience with industrial networking (EtherNet/IP, Modbus), safety PLCs, and commissioning best practices
